Volleyball Uses Balanced Attack To Sweep The University of the Southwest

ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University volleyball team snapped a two-game losing skid when it defeated the University of the Southwest, 3-0, on Tuesday evening in Kimbrell Arena.

The War Hawks used stout defense to defeat the Mustangs in straight sets (25-14, 25-17, 25-19), holding USW to a lowly .037, the lowest total for any McMurry opponent this season.

Offensively, the War Hawks were once again led by M.J. Vickers, who was the only McMurry player to reach double-digit kills with 10. Four other War Hawks totaled at least five kills as Jessica Cory notched seven, and Kayla Hines, Kasi Conners, and Megan Mirau all finished with five.

Defensively, Ayssa Garcia totaled 17 digs while Peyton Evans added eight and Hines tallied seven digs on the day. As a team, McM registered eight team blocks including a team-high three block assists, and one solo block by freshman Taylor Seaton.

The War Hawks will be back in action on Thursday, November 1, when they travel to Odessa, Texas to take on the University of Texas - Permian Basin. The contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. start.
