Volleyball Downs Huston-Tillotson In Straight Sets

AUSTIN, Texas – The McMurry University volleyball team used a balanced attack and solid defense to defeat Huston-Tillotson University in straight sets on Wednesday evening at Branch Gymnasium in Austin.

The War Hawks trailed just once in three sets as they took the sets 25-15, 25-16, 25-19. In the first set, McMurry put together a dominate performance, collecting 19-kills and making just one error in the set. In the second set, McM trailed 1-0 before putting together a 12-3 run. Five kills by M.J. Vickers and two from Kasi Conners were the catalyst in the run that put McMurry up for good in set two. Once again in the third set, the Maroon & Black never trailed as they cruised to their 13th win of the season.

Offensively, McMurry was led by Vickers' 12 kills. Four other War Hawks registered at least six in the contest as Kelsey Harkins registered nine; Taylor Seaton notched seven; and Peyton Evans and Megan Mirau each added six. Evans also added 31 assists on the day.

Defensively, McMurry totaled 40 digs in the three-set affair, led by nine from Ayssa Garcia. Bailey Wilson added seven digs, and Vickers finished the day with six.

The War Hawks will remain in Austin, Texas for a contest tomorrow where they will take on the Hilltoppers of St. Edward's University. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
