McMurry falls to ASC opponent University of the Ozarks, 5-1

CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas – McMurry University men's soccer team fell to the University of the Ozarks 5-1 Thursday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action. The Ozarks started off the scoring barrage with a goal in only the second minute from Tony Santoro.

McMurry scored its only goal in the final minute. Miguel Rodriguez took a Leronimo Aguilar pass and put it past former McMurry goalie Matt Mouer.

The Eagles Eloy Salgado scored two goals including one in the eighth minute of the match. Travis Murnan scored the third goal of the match at the 16:42 mark assisted by Salgado. Salgado scored his second goal of the match and his seventh of the season at the 51:46 off a pass from Cesar Cuevas. The Ozarks' final goal came in the 69th minute of the match by Josh Duncan.

Zac Brewer, the War Hawks goalie, played 58 minutes in the match allowing four goals and saving two shots. He was relieved by Rey Arriaga who allowed one goal and saved one shot. For the Ozarks Neil Thompson played 73 minutes in the match not allowing a goal and saving only one shot.

McMurry was outshot by the Ozarks 8-5, with the Eagles putting all eight on goal. The War Hawks did not have a corner kick in the first half and only had three compared to the Ozarks 11 in the contest.

The loss moves McMurry to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in American Southwest Conference play. The win moves the Ozarks to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in league play. McMurry continues its road trip Saturday at 4 p.m. against UT-Dallas.
