ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University wins its second conference game in dominating fashion beating Texas- Tyler 81-55 Monday night in Kimbrell Arena.
Keshia Collins recorded her second 20 point game of the season, with 22 points, eight boards, and one steal in her performance.
The War Hawks shot 44 percent from the floor compared to 37 percent for the Patriots. McMurry out-rebounded Tyler 49-32, with 18 of the War Hawks boards of the offensive variety.
Jamie Wilson had a break out game scoring 14 points off the bench. Wilson added one block, one assist, and two boards.
Rikeita Thomas aided the McMurry offense with 12 points.
Celeste Belizario recorded a game high nine rebounds, adding eight points, two steals, and one block.
M.J. Vickers and
Bridget Dorn each recorded two blocks for the War Hawks.
McMurry started the game on a 14-2 run capped off by a Wilson jumper at with 14:18 left in the first half. The War Hawks largest lead came after
M.J. Vickers finished off a fast break at the with 3:24 left in the half making the score 44-21.
With the score 47-26 at the break Tyler outscored McMurry in the first five minutes of the match 9-4. McMurry then went on a 9-0 run finished with a free throw make by Collins. The War Hawks extended the second half lead to as many as 31, but finished the game with a 26 point victory over the conference opponent.
McMurry remains undefeated in American Southwest Conference play at 2-0 carrying a 3-1 overall record. Texas-Tyler receives its first loss of the season falling to 3-1 and 1-1 in ASC action. The War Hawks hit the road squaring off against the University of the Ozarks Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. in Clarksville, Arkansas.
