ABILENE, Texas – Senior
Sheharyar Khan scored hit fourth goal of the season in the first half for McMurry University to win its first American Southwest Conference match against Texas Lutheran University, 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Edwards Field. The win moves the War Hawks to 2-14 on the season and 1-10 in ASC action.
Senior day started out with a scene of sportsmanship rarely seen in sports.
Ben Sherwood one of three seniors for the team was injured in the third game of the season and came out on the field to start his final home game for the War Hawks. McMurry took the opening kick off, passed the ball back to the injured Sherwood who proceeded to kick the ball out of bounds. McMurry immediately subbed for Sherwood. Texas Lutheran showed respect for Sherwood, by taking the throw in and passing the ball to the McMurry goalie to start the game.
Khan put his mark on senior day by scoring the only goal of the match in the 6
th minute of the match. Khan took a pass from teammate
Cody Gentry and beat the keeper to the lower right corner of the goal. Defender
Miguel Rodriguez was honored with Khan and Sherwood in between the soccer double header as the third senior of McMurry's soccer team.

Rey Arriaga saved two shots on the afternoon to post the first shut out of the season. Texas Lutheran racked up 16 shots, only landing two on goal. McMurry took 13 shots landing four on target.
McMurry will finish the season on the road facing LeTourneau University and East Texas Baptist University Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. The loss takes Texas Lutheran to 1-14 on the season and 1-10 in ASC play.
