ABILENE, Texas – McMurry took advantage of a 21-0 run that spanned more than nine minutes to keying a 78-46 victory over Sul Ross State Saturday at Kimbrell Arena. McMurry, led by freshman Keshia Collins who had16 points and six rebounds, improves to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in American Southwest Conference play.

The first half had eight lead changes before Tory Salazar hit one of her two free throw attempts to give McMurry a 22-21 lead at the 9:01 mark of the first half. McMurry never relinquished the lead, but the Lobos tied the game at 28 when Brittany Hatch completed a three-point play with 3:49 to play in the half.

Then, McMurry scored 21 straight points between the close of the first half and into the second period before the Lobos' Nicole Murdock stopped the bleeding with a 3-point field goal with 14:34 left in the game. McMurry senior Jordan Stansell scored eight of her 10 points of the contest during the run.

Junior transfer Celeste Belizario added 10 boards and seven points while sophomore Andi Lukaszewski recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Freshmen Stephanie Davis and Katelyn Morgan each scored their first collegiate points as well finishing with four and two points respectively.

Sul Ross started out hot and hit five 3-pointers in the first half while staying close before the run. However, with the drought to close the first half, which carried over into the second, the Lobos finished just 34 percent from the floor and shot only 24 percent in the second half. In the losing effort Candace Polloard and Nicol Murdock had 13 and 10 points respectively.

The loss drops Sul Ross to 0-14 overall and 0-9 in ASC play. McMurry hits the road and will play Concordia-Texas in Austin Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
