PINEVILLE, La. – McMurry University's men's soccer team picked up its first win in more than a year and took its first American Southwest Conference victory since the 2007 season with a 6-0 shutout of Louisiana College at Wildcat Soccer Field Thursday.
Bobby Wagner and
Everton Pinnock scored two goals apiece while
Tyler Tarango and
Jordan Palacios also added scores in the victory.
McMurry was able to score early and often beginning in the 5th minute of the match when Pinnock was able to beat Felix Cummings the Wildcat goalie to give McMurry all they needed for the victory.Tarango would add his goal in the 13th minute of the game with an assist from
Travis Allen.
Pinnock would score his second goal of the match in the 29th minute. Palacios would take a corner kick from Wagner and beat the Wildcat goalie in the 41st minute. Wagner would go on and add goals in the 60th and the 71st minutes.
Just as impressive as the six goals McMurry was able to put up, goalie
Matt Mouer pitched a shutout for the first time in over a year when McMurry tied Concordia 0-0. Mouer saved eight shots on his way to the victory.
McMurry more than tripled Louisiana Colleges shot total by a mark of 34-8. McMurry was also able to put 23 of the 34 shots on target.
The win was McMurry's first since a 3-2 victory over the University of Dallas Sept. 11, 2009, and it was the team's first league win since Oct. 13, 2007 when McMurry upset then-first place Mississippi College, 2-1.
McMurry will take on Mississippi College Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Clinton, Miss.
