Marcum, Vickers lead McMurry past CTX in five sets

ABILENE, Texas – For the second-straight day McMurry's volleyball team slugged out a five-set contest, but a night after falling to Texas Lutheran, McMurry defeated Concordia-Texas in five sets 25-14, 22-25, 19-25, 25-17, 15-11. Bailey Marcum had 16 kills and M.J. Vickers had 15 to lead McMurry to its second win in American Southwest Conference West Division play Saturday at Kimbrell Arena.

After a hot start, McMurry let Concordia-Texas claw back into the match as both teams struggled to hit well. In set two Concordia-Texas won with a –.057 hitting percentage while McMurry hit .000. Then, the Tornados hit just .083, but bested McMurry's .000 to go up two sets to one.

From there, McMurry woke up in set No. 4 hitting .300 to take a 25-17 win and force the match to a deciding fifth set. McMurry jumped out 6-0 before holding on for a 15-11 win to close out the match.

McMurry hit just .128as a team but Marcum hit .350 and Vickers hit .281. Jasmine Qualls had 36 assists and five players had double-digit digs for McMurry with Sarah Anding's 19 leading the way. Marcum and Vickers both had double-doubles with 10 and 14 digs respectively.

For the Tornados, Kalynn White had nine kills and 11 digs in the losing effort. CTX dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in ASC West play while McMurry improved to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in league play.
