McMurry's season ends with 4-1 loss to Tigers

ABILENE, Texas- The McMurry men's soccer team fell in the season finale to the East Texas Baptist Tigers Saturday afternoon 4-1 at Edwards Field. The Tigers scored three goals in the first 21 minutes before McMurry's Bobby Wagner added a goal in the 27th minute, however, that would be the only offense McMurry would muster up.

ETBU struck quickly in the third minute of the match when Juan Ramirez connected with Richard Andrews for the one timer as Andrews beat McMurry goalie Matt Mouer to the lower right corner.

Coming out flat, McMurry would allow two more unassisted goals in the seventh and 21st minutes before Wagner was able to chip the Tiger goalie David Batalla from 10 yards outside the box with his left foot. ETBU would add one more goal when Jonathan Fuentes took the rebound off a penalty kick and past Mouer.

First year head coach Paul Tate was disappointed about the season outcome.

“Overall I expected this year to be a better season than it ended up being,” he said. “We will have a lot of holes to fill in the offseason, but I look forward to building on what we have here now.”

McMurry was led by freshman Everton Pinnock and the junior Wagner who each recorded three goals on the season followed by freshman Jordan Palacios with two. With the loss McMurry will finish 13th in the American Southwest Conference with a 1-17 overall record and 1-12 league mark.
