ABILENE, Texas - McMurry wasn't able to defeat UT-Tyler, but it snapped a four-game losing skid to the Patriots by tying 1-1 Saturday afternoon at Edwards Field. Humberto Sepulveda's fourth goal of the season in the 21st minute knotted the score at one, and following that, neither team gave ground.

The match was just the eighth between the two teams in McMurry's brief program history. McMurry won the first two matches in 2002 (3-0) and 2004 (2-1), however, UT-Tyler had taken the last four matches from 2005-2008.

The Patriots got on the board early with a goal from Daniel Kanue in the fifth minute on an assist from Tony Guillen. Sepulveda responded for McMurry beating two defenders on the dribble and then slipped a slightly deflected shot past the goalie to chip in the goal.

UT-Tyler took 27 shots and had seven on goal, but Collin Bowersock regrouped after the Patriots' early goal and saved six consecutive shots. Eight of McMurry's 11 shots were on goal and Sepulveda have five of those on six total shots.

The Patriots' Bailey Williams recorded seven saves from the goalie position. UT-Tyler took 12 shots apiece in each of the first two halves. However, in overtime, McMurry outshot UT-Tyler 5-3. In the first overtime Sepulveda made every effort to be the hero taking two shots on goal in the first overtime period and took two shots in the second period, one of which was on goal in the 108th minute.

Friday, McMurry tied with Concordia-Texas giving the team its second-straight tie in American Southwest Conference play. The draw moved McMurry to 2-3-3 overall and 0-1-3 in ASC competition, while the defending ASC champs, UTT, moved to 1-4-2 overall and 1-1-2 in ASC competition.

In the past three seasons, McMurry's leading goal scorer at the end of the season had four goals. Through just eight matches, Sepulveda already has four goals with nine regular season matches to spare.

Bowersock put together one of the top performances in the ASC over the weekend allowing just one goal in 220 minutes of play and recorded 10 saves.

McMurry returns to action Thursday in Richardson when it takes on UT-Dallas at 7 p.m.
