ABILENE, Texas – McMurry snapped back after a conference loss Wednesday by dominating in a 25-15, 25-9, 25-14 victory over Sul Ross State at Kimbrell Arena. In its home opener, McMurry used a .311 hitting percentage and held the Lobos to a -.100 mark on defense.
McMurry was able to empty its bench and played 18 players with a balanced offensive attack.
Bailey Marcum led the squad with seven kills while
Terah Brown had five kills on eight attacks and two solo blocks.
Thirteen of McMurry's 18 players recorded kills and the duo of
Kelsey Campbell and
Carmyn Wingrove set the team to its second-highest hitting percentage total of the season. The only other match where McMurry had a better hitting night was Sept. 11 in a win over Keuka College in Colorado Springs, Colo.
McMurry was three service aces away from the American Southwest Conference record for aces in a three-set match.
Danielle Kelton led the team with four service aces and the team had 16. McMurry only had three service receive errors.
Sul Ross was never in the match, after McMurry broke a 7-7 tie in set one; McMurry never trailed again. In set two, the home team built a 12-1 lead before going on to take the set by 16 points. In the third set, the only McMurry starter that played was libero
Sarah Anding. Anding finished with 10 digs.
McMurry improved to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in the ASC while Sul Ross State fell to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in league play. McMurry will play host to Schreiner Saturday at 1 p.m. at Kimbrell Arena.
