IRVING– The McMurry University men's team defeated the University of Dallas 3-2 on its home field Friday afternoon, a feat that hasn't been done since the 2004 season. The Crusaders, who had a 28-0-2 record on its home field since the 2006 season, surrendered two second-half goals to McMurry and couldn't rally to win and protect its streak at home.

Humberto Sepulveda and Logan Garza teamed up twice for goals with the first goal credited to Sepulveda from Garza in the 33rd minute to knot the score at one. Later, Garza's goal from Sepulveda proved to be the game-winner with just 4:05 remaining in regulation.

Saturday, McMurry fell to the University of the Southwest 3-2 after the Mustangs scored twice in the first 3:03. Friday against UD, the match started in an all too familiar fashion with the Crusaders on the board just 1:24 into the contest. UD's Matt Stamper scored on an assist from Ryan Meske.

However, this time McMurry kept its opponent at bay. The Crusaders re-gained the lead with 35 seconds left in the first half with Meske scored on a penalty kick.

The score remained in favor of the Crusaders for much of the second half until McMurry exploded for two goals in the final 8:49. Cory Foust scored on a set up from Baccus in the 82nd minute to tie the score at two before Garza's late-match heroics helped McMurry move to 2-1 on the season.

The University of Dallas hadn't lost on its home field since Oct. 4, 2004 in a 1-0 loss to UT-Dallas in overtime.

UD was an NCAA Playoff team last year after a 16-4-1 season in 2008. The Crusaders split goalie duties between Chris Brisky and Sean Stauduhar in the first and second half respectively. Brisky saved three shots and allowed Sepulveda's goal while Staudhar had three saves but gave up the match-tying and game-winning goals.

McMurry's Matt Mouer started out at goalie and recorded two saves and allowed both UD goals. Collin Bowersock shutout the Crusaders in the second half and saved four shots.

For Sepulveda, it was the second goal of his junior season. However, for the senior Garza, it was the first goal in his four-year collegiate career. Garza's assist to Sepulveda was the second of his career.

McMurry will play Hendrix College Saturday at 1 p.m. on UD's home field before starting conference play next Friday against East Texas Baptist in Marshall.
