Senior second baseman Tre Lips went 2 for 4 at the plate and scored both of McMurry's runs Friday night in McMurry's 2-1 win over Concordia Texas.
Box Score

ABILENE, Texas -- McMurry's Matt Thompson got his first crack of action in the bottom of the ninth inning and made sure he made his presence known as he provided the game-winning RBI against Concordia Texas on Friday to help McMurry to a 2-1 win at Walt Driggers Field. The American Southwest Conference West Division win pushes McMurry's winning streak to seven in a row.

Thompson came up with the bases loaded and only one out and he lifted a ball to deep center field, which allowed Tre Lips to tag up from third and score the winning run.  McMurry is now 17-12 on the year and 8-5 in ASC West play; meanwhile, CTX falls to 16-16 and 5-8.  The teams will finish out their three-game set with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.

McMurry scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Lips doubled to left field with one out in the inning before Jake Mullin plated him with a single to right in the next at bat.  The 1-0 score remained true until the top of the fourth, when CTX tied the game with one run. Tom Williams led off the inning with a base hit to left that was misplayed and allowed him to advance to third. Chad Thielepape made McMurry pay for that two-base error as he belted a one-out RBI-single to score Williams and tie the game.

From there, neither team would manage another run until Thompson's heroics in the bottom of the ninth. Lips got the ninth rolling for McMurry with a one-out single to left field.  Mullin then advanced Lips to second with another base hit.  Stephen Derrick was then intentionally walked to load the bases for Thompson, who was pinch hitting for designated hitter Weston Franco.  Thompson only needed to see two pitches to deliver his game-winning RBI.

McMurry's Kyle Martin and CTX's Matt Coburn pitched brilliantly for their respective ball clubs, although neither of them got the win. Martin got a no decision as he went 8.2 innings and only surrendered one unearned run off of eight hits.  He also struck out seven batters and walked only two. Meanwhile, Coburn took the loss as he also pitched 8.2 innings and only gave up two earned runs off of six hits. Coburn proved problematic all game long for McMurry as he struck out 14 batters (everybody but Derek Saltzgaber and Thompson struck out against Coburn) and only walked one.  Coburn falls to 3-5 on the year while Dakota Smith improves to 5-3 as he pitched 0.1 innings (he got the last out in the top of the ninth inning on four pitches).

Lips (2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored), Mullin (2 for 4 with an RBI) and Derrick (2 for 3) were the only McMurry players to get hits in the game.
