TLU outlasts McMurry in thriller, 3-2

Box Score

ABILENE, Texas – Pedro Martinez and Texas Lutheran broke McMurry's heart Friday afternoon as Martinez scored with 25 seconds remaining in the second overtime to defeat McMurry 3-2 at Edwards Field.

The Bulldogs' Morgan Parker scored in the 74th minute on an assist from Taylor Forseth to knot the score at two and force overtime. McMurry then had opportunities offensively and held off the Bulldogs 19 and-a-half minutes in both overtime periods.

However, with the clock winding down, TLU was in McMurry's box trying to score when a hand-ball was called on McMurry in the closing seconds. Martinez took advantage with the free kick and put the ball past the outstretched hands of McMurry's Collin Bowersock who dove to try and save the match.

However, the Bulldogs left McMurry empty handed dropping the home team to 2-11-3 overall and 0-9-3 in American Southwest Conference. TLU, on the other hand, improved to 4-10-2 overall and 4-6-2 in league play.

TLU opened the match with a goal in the 26th minute by Morgan Parker to go up 1-0 with Andrew Latiolais providing the assist. However, just 39 seconds later, McMurry senior Logan Garza pushed past two defenders after a pass from Tyler Grist and Garza scored a goal to tie the match at 1-1.

In the second half, Joseph Jaques scored on another pass from Grist in the 62nd minute to give McMurry the 2-1 lead. However, TLU's two unanswered goals gave the Bulldogs the road win.

Trey Tesno allowed two goals and saved two shots for TLU in the win at goalie while Bowersock saved eight shots for McMurry.

The final game of the regular season is Saturday at 3 p.m. against Schreiner at Edwards Field.
