Hardin-Simmons sweeps McMurry, 3-0

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons snapped McMurry's five-match win streak and swept the regular season series by sweeping the home team for the second time this season. The Cowgirls edged McMurry in the first two sets 25-23, 25-22 but then took control in set three, held off a rally and won the third set 25-21.

HSU all-American Kaela Parnell led the Cowgirls with 12 kills and an impressive .455 hitting percentage while Madison Reyes added 10 kills for the visitors. HSU hit .231 as a team.

Gracen Harris led HSU defensively with 13 digs and Diona Massey added three blocks. The two-setter combo of Sam Lucien and Erin Davis combined for 25 assists with Lucien taking 19 and Davis adding 16.

McMurry had its chances in the first two sets but couldn't quite bring it all together. On the night, McMurry had four service errors, six receiving errors, a block error and four ball-handling errors, which helped lead to the defeat.

M.J. Vickers had 10 kills and hit .200, Bennie Smith added nine and Terah Brown had seven kills in the loss. Kelsey Campbell had 25 assists for McMurry and Sarah Anding and Daneille Kelton each had 13 digs apiece. Brown added two solo bocks and an assisted block.

HSU improved to 13-5 overall and 10-3 in league play while McMurry fell to 11-9 overall and 8-5 in conference play.

Both teams will play host to the ASC Crossover Tournament Friday and Saturday. McMurry's first match is Friday at 7 p.m. vs. East Texas Baptist.
