McMurry evened its record and completed a three-game sweep of Austin College by winning 14-8 Sunday afternoon at Driggers Field. Three players drove in three runs apiece for McMurry and Arnold Toombs moved to 2-0 on the mound as McMurry moved to 5-5 on the season.

Toombs threw 6.2 innings allowing just three earned runs, walked two and struck out six. The junior transfer lowered his ERA to 2.91 in his three starts this season. Kyle Martin closed the game with 2.1 innings of relief allowing two runs and striking out one.

Derek David hit his fifth home run of the season and third of the series in the sixth inning when he led off with a solo shot. He finished with three RBI on the day and leads the team through Sunday with 14 RBI. For the series, he hit 5 for 11 with seven runs scored and seven RBI. His home run Saturday marked the 20th of his career at McMurry in his third year with the team.

George Whitten and Gerad Morris each drove in three runs Sunday afternoon. Morris doubled home two runs and Whitten had two RBI singles and a sacrifice fly. As a team McMurry had 15 hits Sunday and for the series, McMurry outscored the Kangaroos 40-14 and out-hit Austin College 44-29.

Every player in Sunday's lineup had a hit for head coach Lee Driggers; Brent Voorhees led the team with three hits while Stephen Derrick, David, Whitten and Morris all had multi-hit games.

Austin College's Bobby Schleizer hit a 3-run homer off Toombs in the seventh inning. However, all three runs were unearned because McMurry suffered two straight errors after recording the first out of the inning.

McMurry jumped on AC starter Tyler Steed who lasted just 2.1 innings and gave up eight runs. McMurry got most of its offense in the third inning when it posted nine runs.

McMurry travels to Marshall Friday and Saturday for a three-game set with American Southwest Conference foe East Texas Baptist. The Tigers are in the east division so the games won't count against standings, but are important in-region games. Friday the teams will play a single game at 6 p.m. followed by a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
