Box Score

McMurry's women caught fire in the first half and made 22 of 29 attempts in the first period, which carried the team to a 85-60 win over Schreiner Thursday night at Kimbrell Arena. Tarra Richardson scored 18 and Allison Nelson had 15 points to lead McMurry to its 19th win of the season and helped the home team move to 16-2 in American Southwest Conference play.

Richardson's 18 left her two points shy of reaching the 2,000 point mark for her career. However, it sets her up nicely to accomplish the feat on senior day Saturday against Texas Lutheran. At 1,998 career points, she's already the ASC's all-time leading scorer. Another record in reach for the senior center is the ASC's all-time rebounds lead. After eight boards Thursday night, she needs just seven to tie and eight to break Kendra Anderson's (HSU) record of 955.

In the first half, the unconscious McMurry women couldn't seem to miss. Amber Horton scored all eight of her points in the first half on 4-4 shooting, Richardson was 4 of 5 and had 10 at the break, Maigen Sawyer was 3 of 5 and had seven points while Amanda Peters and Nelson each had five points on 2 of 2 shooting before intermission.

The team cooled off considerably in the second half, but with a insurmountable 51-27 advantage at intermission, McMurry still coasted to victory despite shooting just 33.3 percent in the second period.

Horton finished with six assists on the night and McMurry moved the ball well all contest and had 19 assists as a team Richardson was not only solid on the offensive end but had a solid defensive game with five steals and five blocks. She only attempted eight shots on the night, but connected on six and was also 6 of 8 from the free-throw line.

Sawyer finished with nine points while Callie Williams had eight off the bench to compliment Horton's eight.

The game was sloppy for both sides as Schreiner posted 30 turnovers and McMurry had 28. Schreiner's Anna Fareed led with 17 points and Monica Enriquez had 14 for the Lady Mountaineers in the losing effort.

McMurry's 85 points was a season high and the team will look for its 20th win Saturday in its final home game of the regular season against winless Texas Lutheran. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m. and senior Tarra Richardson and Maigen Sawyer will be honored. Juniors Allison Nelson and Erica Peters will also be treated as seniors Saturday as both are graduating early and don't plan to participate in their final seasons of eligibility.
