McMurry bounced back from its only loss of the season to tie for first in the American Southwest Conference West Division with a 32-20, 30-27, 28-30, 30-24 win over Texas Lutheran at Kimbrell Arena Friday night. Erica English, Danielle Kelton and Terah Brown all had double-digit kills in the victory.
English had a season-high 21 kills with a phenomenal .475 hitting percentage. The junior had just two attacking errors on 40 attempts. English's team fed off her and hit .233 for the contest. Brown had 15 kills and seven blocks while Kelton added 13 kills and eight digs.
Shannon Higgins and Kendall Jackson shared in the setting duties with Higgins leading the way with 34 and Jackson pitching in 10. Higgins also added 14 digs and four kills. Sarah Anding had a match-high 32 digs.
McMurry out-blocked TLU 10-5 and English added four block assists to accompany Brown's five solo and two assisted blocks.
The Lady Bulldogs' Jamie Lassiter led the team with 19 kills and a .300 hitting percentage. Her teammate, Jamie Jahns wasn't far behind with 18 kills and .297 hitting percentage. Amber Meeks added 13 kills and a team-high 26 digs in the losing effort.
McMurry was coming off a 3-1 loss to Hardin-Simmons Wednesday night, but began Friday night's game by jumping out to a two-game lead. McMurry could have swept the game, however, TLU fought back to win game three 30-28. Other than an early 4-1 lead by the Lady Bulldogs in game four, McMurry was in control for most of the game.
McMurry moved to 8-1 on the season and moved to 3-1 in the ASC West Division. Texas Lutheran fell to 6-3 overall and tied McMurry atop the ASC West with a 3-1 mark.
McMurry takes on another ASC West opponent in Schreiner Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
