SOFTBALL
Edwards Field opened in February of 2020 and is the newest on-campus facility at McMurry University. This field is home to McMurry's Softball program, which began in 2018.
Edwards Field's namesake is Murray and Kathi Edwards, who provided a generous donation to help fund the facility. Edwards Field is located adjacent to McMurry Baseball's Walt Driggers Field on the corner of Sayles Blvd. and S. 17th Street. This facility seats 300 fans with bleachers stretching out from the center to both sides, while also providing an area on each side for fans to bring lawn chairs.
Another key feature within this facility is the state-of-the-art playing surface, which contains the same type of dirt used by the Texas Rangers baseball team. Two spacious dugouts were also installed with high fencing, helping protect participants from foul balls. Storage spaces and bathrooms are also included in the dugouts, as well as two bullpens stretching past the dugouts into the outfield for each team. Indoor and outdoor batting cages are shared with the baseball team just behind the stadium.
Last, but not least, McMurry Athletics installed a brand-new video board in left center field. Powered by Nevco, this giant video board enhances the gameday experience with player cards, motion and still graphics, as well as promotional content between innings. A new sound system was also implemented above home plate and will undergo surround sound renovations for the 2021 season. Both the video and audio, as well as stats and live video broadcasts, are operated inside the newly-installed, climate-controlled 24-foot press box, which can seat up to eight people.
Parking for fans is encouraged to the west of the baseball stadium in the main Aldersgate Church Parking Lot, or in the caliche lot located across from Walt Driggers Field.
