ABILENE, Texas - McMurry Women's Soccer opened conference play Saturday evening, dropping a tightly contested 2-1 battle against Hardin-Simmons at Wilford Moore Stadium.
The War Hawks got on the board quickly in the sixth minute when
Halin Griffith finished off a feed from
Isabella Johnson for her second goal of the season to grab an early 1-0 lead.
Hardin-Simmons answered back to level the score in the 16th minute, sending the match into halftime locked at 1-1.
McMurry kept pressing in the second half and created several dangerous chances on frame, but the Cowgirls broke the deadlock in the 84th minute to take the 2-1 advantage.
The War Hawks out-shot the visitors on target 6-4 across 90 minutes.
Cadence Foulkrod went the distance in goal for McMurry with one save, complemented by a crucial team save in the opening half.
Laila Brown led McMurry's attack with four shots, placing two on goal. Griffith recorded three shots—all on frame—highlighted by her opening goal, while
Genevieve Dorasami tallied a shot on target and
Audrey Pool added one shot.
McMurry returns to Wilford Moore for more conference action on October 1st at 5:00 p.m. to host Howard Payne.
