SEGUIN, Texas - The McMurry University men's golf team earned a third-place finish at the John Nellermoe Classic hosted by Texas Lutheran University at the par-72, 6,784-yard Starcke Park Golf Course.
The War Hawks posted rounds of 287, 296, and 289 to finish with an 8-over-par total of 872. Southwestern won the tournament with a 2-under-par total of 291-280-295—866, edging runner-up LeTourneau (867) by a single stroke. McMurry held off host Texas Lutheran (873) by one shot for third place and finished ahead of SCAC and regional foes St. Thomas (884), Schreiner (890), Concordia Texas (897), and crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons (903).
Junior
Kendrick Hoster captured the individual championship to lead the War Hawks, posting a 5-under-par 68-73-70—211 to claim top honors by three strokes over a three-way tie for second. Hoster opened the tournament with a field-best 4-under 68 in round one and closed out the victory with a 2-under 70 in Tuesday's final round.
Tripten Roberts tied for 15th place with a consistent 74-72-73—219 (+3).
Jackson Ballou placed 19th with a 73-75-73—221 (+5).
Eli Brinton closed with a 1-over 73 to finish tied for 29th at 77-76-73—226 (+10), while
Owen Morris carded a 72-83-75—230 (+14) to tie for 39th.
