McMurry Softball Falls to St. Thomas in Series Finale

Houston, TX - The McMurry War Hawks traveled to Houston on February 28, 2026, for a road conference matchup against the University of St. Thomas. The War Hawks struggled to generate offense against St. Thomas' pitching, ultimately falling 13-0 in a five-inning contest.

The game began as a pitcher's duel in the first inning. McMurry starter Emmalee Gebhart kept the Celts off the board in the bottom of the first, despite a leadoff single and a stolen base, by inducing a flyout and a strikeout to end the threat. The War Hawks' offense was quiet in their opening frame, going down in order.

In the top of the second inning, McMurry threatened to take the early lead. After two quick outs, Kaelyn Rodriguez provided a spark for the offense, ripping a double to center field. However, a lineout to right field left her stranded in scoring position. St. Thomas responded in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on a fielder's choice RBI to take a 1-0 lead.

The game broke open in the bottom of the third inning. After the War Hawks went down in order in the top half, St. Thomas exploded for 11 runs on a barrage of hits, including two triples and two doubles, extending their lead to 12-0. Sophia Garza entered the circle in relief for McMurry during the inning to try to stem the tide.

McMurry looked to chip away at the deficit in the top of the fourth. Sophia Steele connected for a double to right-center field, giving the War Hawks their second hit of the afternoon. Alexis King entered the game to pinch run, but the St. Thomas defense held firm, and McMurry was unable to bring the run home. St. Thomas added one final run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single to bring the score to 13-0.

In the final frame, the War Hawks were unable to mount a comeback, and the side was retired to end the game via the run rule.
