War Hawks Find Offensive Rhythm Late And Fall to UST

Box Score HOUSTON, TX – Despite a spirited second-half comeback and a season-high performance from the perimeter, the McMurry War Hawks fell to the University of St. Thomas, 79-65, on Tuesday evening at the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center.

The War Hawks displayed remarkable resilience, battling back from an early deficit to find their offensive stride as the game progressed. McMurry's commitment to attacking the rim resulted in 30 points in the paint, while their defensive pressure forced the Celts into 12 turnovers.

Helena Chadwick led all scorers with a commanding 23 points. Chadwick was a force from beyond the arc, knocking down three triples, and was flawless from the free-throw line, going 4-for-4. Her playmaking was on full display in the final minutes as she found open teammates to spark a late scoring run.

Aryana Cleveland provided a steady presence inside, finishing with 16 points and five rebounds. Cleveland shot efficiently from the floor and was instrumental in McMurry's transition game, recording three assists and a steal. Her ability to finish through contact kept the War Hawks competitive throughout the high-tempo matchup.

Jordan Bravo rounded out the top performers, contributing 9 points and three rebounds. Bravo was active on both ends of the floor, securing crucial second-chance opportunities with two offensive boards and adding an assist. Her defensive intensity helped anchor a unit that held the Celts to just 16 points in the final period.

In the final stretch, J'Lee Sloan provided a defensive spark with a massive block on a Jaydia Morris layup, followed immediately by a successful tip-in on the other end. Mackenzie Amos further narrowed the gap with a late layup in the paint, punctuating a 22-point final period for McMurry. While the initial gap proved too wide to bridge, the War Hawks outscored the Celts in the final ten minutes, carrying significant momentum into their next outing.
