ABILENE, TX - It was a tough day on the diamond for our McMurry War Hawks in their home conference series finale against Texas Lutheran on February 14th at Edwards Field. The visiting team took the game, securing a 10-1 victory over the War Hawks in six innings.
In the first inning, Texas Lutheran's offense set the tone by putting three runs on the board.
Morgan Faubion recorded a single for McMurry in the bottom half of the first, but was later caught stealing to end the early momentum.
After a scoreless second inning for both teams, McMurry found a spark in the bottom of the third.
Kami Owen reached base on an error.
Kaelyn Rodriguez followed with a single up the middle, advancing Owen to second base.
Alyssa Hernandez then executed a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position.
Morgan Faubion grounded out to the shortstop, earning an RBI as
Kami Owen crossed the plate for McMurry's only run of the game.
Texas Lutheran responded in the top of the fourth inning by adding three more runs to their total. During this inning, McMurry utilized its bullpen as
Emmalee Gebhart was relieved by
Sophia Garza, who was subsequently replaced by
Rexie Sanders.
Sophia Steele provided a single for the War Hawks in the bottom of the fourth, but the team was unable to capitalize.
Texas Lutheran put the game out of reach in the top of the sixth inning, bringing in four additional runs.
Nyema Muhammad entered the circle in relief during the frame. McMurry showed late life in the bottom of the sixth when
Morgan Faubion and pinch-hitter
Marissa Cardenas both hit singles to put runners on base. However,
Angelina Kulbeth lined into a double play, and a subsequent groundout quickly ended the game.
Top Performers
Morgan Faubion: Led the offensive effort with two singles and recorded the team's only RBI.
Kami Owen: Scored the lone run for the War Hawks after reaching on a fielding error in the third inning.
Kaelyn Rodriguez: Contributed a base hit in the third inning to help set up McMurry's scoring opportunity.
Sophia Steele: Provided a solid single up the middle during the fourth inning.
