McMurry's Big Sixth: Comeback Caps Dramatic Win Over Austin College

ABILENE - The McMurry War Hawks defeated the Austin College Kangaroos in a thrilling comeback victory at Edwards Field. The final score was 6-4, with McMurry scoring all six of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

Austin College scored first in the top of the second inning. After a single and a fielder's choice, the Kangaroos scored a run due to an error by McMurry's shortstop, Angelina Kulbeth.   

Austin College added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. A sacrifice fly scored one run, followed by two more RBI on a ground out and double, increasing their lead to 4-0.   

McMurry's bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning. Aliyah Tanguma led off the inning reaching on an error by the pitcher. Sabrina Graf hit a pinch-hit double, bringing home Morgan Mehaffey, who pinch-ran for Tanguma. A sacrifice fly by Mercedes Camacho scored Samantha Gonzalez who re-entered the game to run for Graf. Reaghan Staehely singled, driving in Jade Dickens. Maya Mongelli followed with a triple, scoring two more runs. Tristyn Barton finished the scoring with a single to score Mongelli, giving McMurry a 6-4 lead.   

In the top of the seventh inning, McMurry's pitcher, Thalia Reyes, who came in in the fifth inning in relief of Baylee Fulps, pitched three scoreless innings and secured the win.

Overall, McMurry scored six runs on 15 hits and committed one error. The War Hawks will return to the field tomorrow for a doubleheader against Austin College, with the first pitch at noon.
