ROUND ROCK, TX - The McMurry Women's Soccer team delivered a top-tier performance on Friday, shutting out Hendrix College with a dominant 2-0 victory in the SCAC Tournament Semifinals. The win propels the War Hawks (10-3-5 overall, 7-0-3 SCAC) into the conference championship match on Sunday against Concordia University.
The match was a tight affair through the first half, but the War Hawks controlled the flow of the game, outshooting Hendrix 9-5 before the break. Goalkeeper Avery Anders kept her focus sharp, collecting one save in the first 45 minutes to keep the score level at 0-0.
McMurry's persistent attack finally broke the deadlock in the second half, fueled by increased pressure and creativity. In the 67th minute (66:55), Laila Brown punched through the first goal of the day, netting her sixth goal of the season off a crucial assist from Halin Griffith.
The War Hawks quickly followed up their lead with an insurance goal in the 77th minute (76:06). This time, Hailey Andrle converted the second score, with the play orchestrated by assists from both Madison Black and Audrey Pool, securing the 2-0 advantage.
Offensively, the War Hawks were relentless, racking up 21 shots in the game compared to Hendrix's eight. Laila Brown led the way with six total shots, four of which were on target, making her a constant threat to the Warrior defense. Keeli Villarreal and Cate Tempelmeyer also contributed significant pressure, combining for four shots on goal between them.
Defensively, the back line stood strong, allowing Avery Anders to complete the clean sheet, finishing the match with three saves and ensuring the War Hawks' ticket to the final.
McMurry now turns its attention to the SCAC Championship, set for Sunday, November 9, at 10:00 a.m. against No. 4 seed Concordia at the Round Rock Multi-Purpose Complex, promising a fierce rematch of their earlier 0-0 draw.
