SEGUIN, TX - The McMurry women's soccer team secured a crucial 1-1 conference draw against Texas Lutheran on Friday at Gustafson Field, allowing the War Hawks to maintain their top spot in the conference standings. The War Hawks fought back from an early deficit to remain unbeaten in conference play at 5-0-2.
The Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead with a penalty kick goal in the 14th minute. The War Hawks' defense then held Texas Lutheran scoreless for the remainder of the match.
McMurry found the equalizer early in the second half when Cienna Rodriguez scored an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute. The goal, Rodriguez's first of the season, secured the 1-1 tie.
The War Hawks dominated possession and outshot the Bulldogs 16-5, placing seven shots on target. Alexis Lira, Cate Tempelmeyer, Madison Black, and Audrey Pool each recorded two shots, and Laila Brown, Hailey Donaldson, Katie Wilson, Alyssa Villarreal, Cienna Rodriguez, and Keeli Villarreal all added shots as well. Goalkeeper Avery Anders earned the draw, making one save.
The War Hawks will look to continue their unbeaten conference streak in their next match at the Round Rock Multi-Purpose Complex to face Concordia University on Sunday, October 19th, at 5:00 p.m.
