COLORADO SPRINGS- McMurry women's basketball fell on the road to Colorado College on Sunday by a score of 70-51. The War Hawks dropped to 10-3 overall & received their first conference loss, bringing them to 3-1 in SCAC play. Colorado College improved to 13-2 & 5-1 in conference play.
The first quarter would see a lot of back and forth action, as both teams remained close in score throughout the quarter. The tigers would lead the War Hawks by a score of 16-11 after one quarter of play.
In the second quarter, both teams had their fare share of runs and momentum swings. A quick 5-0 run at the beginning of the quarter gave the War Hawks the lead at 16-15, before the Tigers answered with a 10-0 run of their own to make the score 25-16. McMurry wouldn't lead again for the remainder of the half but closed out the quarter strong, cutting it to 32-27 at the half.
The War Hawks would continue to build on their momentum from the end of the first half as they once again took a 1 point lead a couple minutes into the third quarter. The Tigers would respond again, as they got hot shooting the ball from the field.
Colorado College would take a 10 point lead into the fourth quarter and never looked back. The War Hawks tried to get back into it but couldn't seem to string together enough possessions to close the gap. McMurry would fall by a score of 70-51 after struggling in the final quarter of play.
McMurry was led by Emily Holland with 10 points & Jordan Gillespie who also had 10 points, while Colorado College was led by Zoe Tomlinson who had 34 points.
The War Hawks will be back in action at home on Friday against Trinity at 5:30PM.
