Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Ray Fink

War Hawks Shut Down Pioneers, 2-0

ABILENE – After a sluggish first half, McMurry got two goals from Emily Holland and knocked off Wayland Baptist 2-0 on Friday.

"We definitely struggled a bit to find a rhythm," said McMurry head coach Charles Nobles. "We were obviously a little tired from playing yesterday. The second half was much better. We found tow good goals. Emily found a way to be special and that's exciting."

Holland scored in the 64th minute, getting the game-winner on an assist from Cate Tempelmeyer. Her sixth goal of the season was in the 89th minute, using a feed from Jaelynn Portillo.

Wayland Baptist had 10 shots, including one of the post, but Nana Torres and Lauren Marlow were equal to the task in goal. Torres had two saves and Marlow added another.

"They had one great opportunity but besides that, we were pretty solid defensively," said Nobles. "We'll continue learning from the little mistakes and we will get better."

The War Hawks return to action on Thursday when they visit Hardin-Simmons for a 7 p.m. contest.
