McMurry University made its last appearance in the American Southwest Conference Softball Championship May 9-10 in Marshall.
Coach David McNally's team, the tourney's second seed, lost 9-5 Thursday, May 9 to the sixth seed, Concordia Texas. It scored two runs in the fourth inning and three in the sixth. Junior right fielder Aliyah Tanguma (Kyle, Texas) doubled to right center in the fourth for a RBI and sophomore first baseman Trista Brown (Crosby, Texas) scored. Senior left fielder Angelica Abila (Lubbock, Texas) then singled up the middle for a RBI and Tanguma crossed home plate. In the sixth, sophomore shortstop Morgan Faubion (Crosby, Texas) singled up the middle and advanced to second on the throw for a RBI, Abila went to third and junior catcher Maya Mongelli (Lubbock, Texas) scored. Junior second baseman Jade Dickens (Friendswood, Texas) then singled to center field for a 2 RBI and Faubion and Abila went home. McMurry got 10 hits with contributions from Abila (2), Faubion (2), Dickens (2), freshman first baseman/designated player Reaghan Staehely (Mission, Texas), Brown, Tanguma and Mongelli.
Fifth-year senior Jenna Lewis (Hearne, Texas), who threw four innings while striking out one batter, was given the loss.
McMurry lost 3-0 Friday, May 10 to Hardin-Simmons, the fourth seed. It had three hits with contributions from Faubion, Dickens and Brown.
Junior Baylee Fulps (San Angelo, Texas), who went the distance in throwing seven innings while striking out two, was given the loss.
McMurry finished with a 25-13 record.
