Box Score McMurry University's Lady War Hawks beat University of the Ozarks 67-61 Saturday, Feb. 3 in Clarksville, Ark.
Junior guard/forward Emily Holland (Mansfield, Texas) led the way with 26 points followed by sophomore guard Kylie Flippin (Wichita Falls, Texas) with 22 and sophomore guard Helana Chadwick (La Vernia, Texas) with six.
Holland put her name in the record books for the second time this week as she achieved the rare feat of having a triple double with 10 free throws and 11 rebounds to go with her points. On Thursday against the University of Texas-Dallas, she reached the 1000th career point plateau.
Coach Drew Long's team was down 13-11 at the end of the first quarter but won the second 18-14. The second half mirrored the first as the opponent won the third quarter 22-19 and McMurry took the fourth 19-12.
Chadwick led in rebounding with 13, two on offense and 11 on defense. Holland had one offensive rebound and 10 defensively. Flippin made four three pointers and Holland added two. At the free throw line, Holland was 10 of 10, junior post Katie Hale (Decatur, Texas) and sophomore forward/center Aryana Cleveland (San Antonio, Texas) were both 2 of 2, and junior post Ashton Garner (Odessa, Texas) was 1 of 1. The War Hawks stole the ball six times. Holland had two thefts while senior guard/forward Taya Bridges (Mesquite, Texas), Flippin, Chadwick and Cleveland added one apiece. Bridges, Cleveland and Holland each blocked a shot.
The score was tied three times and the lead changed hands five times.
McMurry, 15-7 overall and 9-4 in the American Southwest Conference, plays at crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons University at 1 p.m. Saturday.
