McMurry softball wins series against southwestern.

McMurry University softball swept a two-game series Friday, Feb. 23 against Southwestern University in Georgetown, winning 3-0 and 10-0.

In the first game, coach David McNally's team did all its damage in the seventh when senior designated player Kate Casey (Thorndale, Texas) doubled to right field for a 2 RBI that sent freshman pinch runner Lillian Contreras (Corpus Christi, Texas) and junior right fielder Aliyah Tanguma (Kyle, Texas) home. Junior catcher Maya Mongelli (Lubbock, Texas) also crossed home plate after the right fielder gunned the ball to second base but overthrew the target. McMurry had seven hits with contributions from senior left fielder Angelica Abila (Lubbock, Texas), sophomore shortstop Morgan Faubion (Crosby, Texas), sophomore first baseman Trista Brown (Crosby, Texas), Tanguma, Mongelli (2) and Casey.
 

Fifth-year senior Jenna Lewis (Hearne, Texas) went the distance in seven innings, striking out eight, to raise her record to 2-0.
 

In the second game, McMurry scored twice in the first and eight times in the fifth. Sophomore third baseman Miranda Soileau (Houston, Texas) started the offense by singling to left field for an RBI that enabled junior second baseman Jade Dickens (Friendswood, Texas) to go to second and Abila to score. Also in the first, junior right fielder Tristyn Barton (Belton, Texas) walked, Brown went to second, Soileau advanced to third and Dickens crossed home plate. The floodgates opened in the fifth. Tanguma singled to left field for an RBI that sent freshman third baseman Elaina Herrera (Belton, Texas) to second, Faubion to third and Dickens home. Brown then homered for a 4 RBI that allowed junior center fielder Mercedes Camacho (El Paso, Texas), Herrera and Faubion to score. Also in the fifth, Dickens singled to right field for a 2 RBI that advanced Abila to third and freshman designated player Sophia Fuller (Eagle River, Alaska) and Barton home. Faubion then singled to right field for an RBI that sent Dickens to second and Abila across home plate. McMurry got 13 hits with contributions from Abila, Dickens (3), Faubion (2) Soileau (2), Tanguma, Brown, Barton, junior catcher Sabrina Graf (San Antonio, Texas) and Fuller.
 

Junior Baylee Fulps (San Angelo, Texas) went the distance in five innings, striking out one, to increase her record to 2-0.
 

McMurry, 4-0, stays on the road to play at Trinity University in San Antonio at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday.
