GEORGETOWN – McMurry finished the women's soccer season with a 2-2 tie at Southwestern on Sunday, ending the year at 9-6-3 overall and 5-2-3 in the SCAC.

The War Hawks got on the board first when
Cate Tempelmeyer scored with an assist from
Haylie Blakley in the eighth minute.

Southwestern tied the game in the eighth minute and the teams went into halftime tied.

Laila Brown scored in the 57
th minute for a 2-1 McMurry lead but the Pirates added a goal in the 75
th minute for the final margin.

McMurry had nine shots, led by Brown with three and
Emily Holland and
Grace Singleton with two each. Brown had three shots on goal with Holland, Tempelmeyer and Singleton adding one apiece.

Avery Anders and
Nana Torres shared time in goal with Anders collecting six saves.

The match was the last for seniors
McKenna Standifer,
Jaelynn Portillo, Blakley, Holland and Singleton.

"This group of seniors is the most successful group in the history of the program," said McMurry head coach
Charles Nobles. "I challenged them when they came in to leave a legacy and make sure the jersey is better for all those who come next. They did that and more. I am blessed they took a chance on me and this program all those years ago and they have made everyone whom they have met better."
