This Week in McM Women's Soccer

ABILENE – McMurry Women's Soccer continues its quest for its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference postseason with road contests at Texas Lutheran and Southwestern.

The War Hawks play in Seguin at 7 p.m. on Friday and at Southwestern at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

McM Storylines

Points Needed: The scoreless tie with Austin College on Sunday left the War Hawks one point outside of the SCAC's top four. Trinity has pretty much wrapped up the league regular season title but Southwestern (21 points), Concordia (19), Texas Lutheran (18) and McMurry (17) will work out the remaining three positions this weekend as McMurry and Concordia both play road games at TLU and Southwestern. Three points are awarded for a win and one point for a tie so McMurry likely needs a win and a tie or better this weekend.

Shootist: Emily Holland is first or second in most of the SCAC's offensive categories, including her six game-winning goals. That mark is first in the league and fourth nationally. She's also second in the conference with 11 goals and 0.69 goals per game. She is first in the SCAC 4.50 shots per game and 2.25 shots on goal per game.

Goals: Along with Emily Holland's 11 goals, McMurry has goals from 13 players this season. Laila Brown has four, Cate Tempelmeyer has three, Jaelynn Portillo has two and Haylie Blakley, Brooklyn Grove, Emery Kirby, McKenna Standifer, Kaylee Worth, Hailey Donaldson, Hailey Graham, Cienna Rodriguez and Grace Singleton have one each.

Assists: Emily Holland and Jaelynn Portillo lead the team with four assists each while Haylie Blakley, Cate Tempelmeyer and Laila Brown have two each. Alexis Lira, Ava Ybarra, Brooklyn Grove, McKenna Standifer, Kaylee Worth and Emery Kirby have one apiece.

Shots Fired: Five War Hawks have taken 10 or more shots this season: Emily Holland (72), Laila Brown (21), Cate Tempelmeyer (15), Jaelynn Portillo (13) and Grace Singleton (11). Holland has 36 shots on goal and Brown follows with 11.

Keeps: Avery Anders has taken over as the starting goalkeeper and is second in the SCAC in goals allowed per game at 0.498.

About Texas Lutheran: TLU comes into the weekend at 10-5-1 overall and 6-2 against the SCAC. The Bulldogs have won their last three games by a combined score of 16-1. Melissa Simien leads the league with 12 goals and has seven assists for 31 points this season.

About Southwestern: The Pirates are 9-5 overall and 7-1 in the SCAC. They have outscored opponents 11-1 during their current four-game winning streak. Lindsey Gomez and Jackie Powell lead SU with four goals each.
