GEORGETOWN, TEXAS – A battle between Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and American Southwest Conference powers couldn't have been much closer Friday, Sept. 15.
Head coach
Charles Nobles' War Hawks, seeking a continuance of the best start in program history, matched up toe-to-toe with perennial SCAC standout Southwestern University on SWU's home pitch. Only four total shots separated the two sides, each team's net minder compiled six saves, and the two teams each took seven strikes at either's frame over the 90 minutes.
Junior forward
Emily Holland (Mansfield, Texas) and sophomore midfielder
Alexis Lira (North Richland Hills, Texas) led the Maroon and White offensive charge. They combined for 11 of the visitors' 16 total shots and five attempts on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Cortlynn Boone (Argyle, Texas) had an impressive evening patrolling the War Hawks goal with six saves, a season-best for her.
Unfortunately, for Nobles' crew, Southwestern managed to notch the key tally in the match which occurred in the 31
st minute. The Pirates deposited a successful offensive chance into McMurry's net toward a 1-0 victory.
The Maroon and White continue a two-match road trip Tuesday, Sept. 19. They take on Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, with a 7 p.m. start.
