ABILENE, TEXAS – McMurry University's pitching staff's "complete-game train" continued to roll down the line Friday, May 5.
Senior
Jenna Lewis (Hearne, Texas) dodged an early Howard Payne University home run and a spring weather maker that closed down game one of the weekend American Southwest Conference series after five-and-a-half frames. She picked up her 11
th victory of the season and 20
th triumph of her Maroon and White career, tallying five strikeouts.
Meanwhile, head coach
David McNally's offense made it tough on Yellowjackets starter Bree Cason from the first pitch. They loaded the bases in the first with three straight bunt singles but were turned away and then produced safeties in the second and third before sending three runs in during the fifth that made the difference in a 3-1 decision. Junior outfielder
Angelica Abila (Lubbock, Texas), sophomore infielder
Jade Dickens (Friendswood, Texas), and freshman infielder
Bre Barajas (Abilene, Texas) belted run-scoring hits in the rally. Abila and Dickens each wound up with three-hit afternoons.
McMurry (23-12, 15-10 ASC) concludes its 2023 regular and conference season Saturday, May 7. A doubleheader against HPU begins at noon, followed by Senior Day 2023 festivities at Edwards Field.
