WIN STREAK MOVES TO FOUR

ABILENE, TEXAS – A steady diet of solid pitching and quick-strike offense helped lift McMurry University to a pair of non-conference wins Saturday, Feb. 11.

The War Hawks, roaring past Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Southwestern University 9-1 and 10-2 in two five-inning victories at Edwards Field, posted two four-run innings in game one in the first and fifth. They came back in game two to shake a pesky Pirates unit with six in the bottom of the fourth to break open a 2-1 battle.

Freshman infielder Trista Brown (Crosby, Texas) smashed a two-run shot high over the left field fence in the bottom of the first of game two. At the same time, junior outfielder Jesse Stephenson (Marble Fall, Texas) drove in two more with two hits, including a double. In game one, junior outfielder Angelica Abila (Lubbock, Texas), junior infielder Grace Duecker (Fredericksburg, Texas), freshman designated player Miranda Soileau (Houston, Texas), and freshman infielder Morgan Faubion (Crosby, Texas) each clouted two hits.

The two offensive blitzkriegs were enough for sophomore Baylee Fulps (San Angelo, Texas) and senior Jenna Lewis (Hearne, Texas) to pick up pitching decisions. Fulps danced around eight hits in the opener, and Lewis, improving to 2-0, struck out nine and scattered six hits in the nightcap.

Head coach David McNally and his team take their unbeaten record up against yet another SCAC foe Friday, Feb. 17. Schreiner University comes to Edwards Field for a 3 p.m. start.
