Box Score McMurry University continued a thrilling start to the American Southwest Conference schedule Saturday, Dec. 2 with an 80-60 shellacking of LeTourneau University in Longview.

As a result, the Lady War Hawks are in sole possession of first place with a 2-0 record.

Coach Drew Long's team roared out of the gates to a 17-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the opponent won the second stanza and McMurry was ahead 32-29 at halftime. The Maroon and White used an all-gas no brakes no philosophy in the second half, outscoring the opponent 48-31.

Junior post Katie Hale (Decatur, Texas) came off the bench to lead the team with 20 points, including a sizzling 6 of 8 from three-point land. Right behind her were junior guard/forward Emily Holland (Mansfield, Texas) with 15 points, sophomore guard Helana Chadwick (La Vernia, Texas) with 12, and sophomore forward/center Aryana Cleveland (San Antonio, Texas), another reserve, with 10.
Holland topped the rebounding with seven, two on offense and five on defense. Three players had six apiece - senior guard/forward Jada Morris (Forney, Texas), three on offense and three on defense, Hale, one on offense and five on defense, and Cleveland, four on offense and two on defense. McMurry had 10 steals with four by sophomore guard Kylie Flippin (Wichita Falls, Texas). Senior guard/forward Taya Bridges (Mesquite, Texas), Cleveland and Flippin each blocked a shot. Cleveland also had five assists.
The team got 22 points from turnovers.

The Lady War Hawks started the conference schedule by knocking off conference power East Texas Baptist University on the road Nov. 30. The standings can be found at ascsports.org.
McMurry, 5-1 overall, returns to Kimbrell Arena Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. game with Sul Ross State University.
