RICHARDSON, Texas – The 2022 women's tennis season drew to a close for McMurry University on Friday, as the War Hawks were defeated 5-0 by Hardin-Simmons in the American Southwest Conference semifinal round in Richardson, Texas.
The War Hawks weren't able to win any points before the Cowgirls clinched, but showed some fight in various matches. HSU – the regular season ASC West Division champions – won all three doubles points and No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
Junior Hope Turner was involved in two close battles in top flights, including an 8-5 loss to end doubles alongside sophomore Hannah DeFriend. Turner won her first set at No. 1 singles 6-2, but was unable to finish the match against Laurel Coleman due to HSU clinching the fifth team point elsewhere.
Though she dropped the first set, freshman McKenzie Carroll was up 2-1 in the second set at No. 6 singles before the match was called. She and Andrea Smith also earned three points before falling at No. 3 doubles.
The Cowgirls advance to the championship final set for Saturday at 11 a.m. against either Concordia Texas or UT Dallas.
The War Hawks end their season with a 9-11 overall record and a 3-2 record in conference matches.
