Game Recap: Softball |

Softball returns from Belton empty handed

BELTON, Texas – McMurry University Softball finished a three-game set at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, falling in the series finale by a 5-2 final at UMHB's Dee Dillon Field.

All three games in the series were decided by three runs or less.

McMurry struck first in the finale as sophomore Grace Duecker drove in Mercedes Camacho on a fielder's choice, but UMHB took over the lead in the bottom half with a pair of runs.

The 2-1 score held through six innings. In the bottom of the frame, the Cru tacked on three more runs for insurance.

Down to its final three outs, McMurry led off the seventh with a solo homer by senior Kelsey Ahart. That would be the only run to cross in the final inning, as the tying run was left on deck to end it.

McMurry dropped its first series of the season this weekend, moving to an even 4-4 overall record. UMHB, last year's American Southwest Conference West Division champion, improved to 5-3 overall with the sweep.

The Cru are 4-2 in conference play, while McMurry becomes 2-4.

The War Hawks remain on the road next week, traveling to Arkansas to face University of the Ozarks Feb. 25-26. Friday will include a 1 p.m. doubleheader, while Saturday's single game finale is set for 11 a.m.
