MCMURRY TURNS TO FAMILIAR THEME IN HPU SERIES

BROWNWOOD, TEXAS – The ability to reach triple digits on the scoreboard in recent history against Howard Payne University served McMurry University well again Saturday, Dec. 10.

The War Hawks, looking to even their 2022-23 American Southwest Conference action, used its second 60-points-or-more second-half output in its last three contests to move past the host YellowJackets 100-89 at Brownwood Coliseum. Head coach Zach Pickelman's squad managed to break away from a back-and-forth battle over the first 26-plus minutes, using a 9-2 stretch midway through the second stanza to separate themselves. The Maroon, Black, and White got their lead out to as much as 17 from that point to seal the decision.

McMurry's third successive 100-points-or-more total in the annual league battle was led by senior guard Remy Minor (Chicago, Ill.), who totaled 25 behind an eight-of-13 effort from the field. He was one of five War Hawks in double digits. Junior center Elias Garcia (Houston, Texas) found himself at and above the rim often as part of a 16-point, five-rebound, two-steal, one-blocked shot afternoon. Junior guard C.J. LeBlanc (Dallas, Texas) had a scintillating statistical output with 13 points and eight assists. He was also the visitors' steals leader (three). Sophomore forward/center T.J. Hilliard (New Orleans, La.) (12 points, ten rebounds) and sophomore guard Matt Pena (El Paso, Texas) (12 points, four three-point baskets) rounded out the double-figure list.

McMurry, winners of two of their last three, look to keep the momentum going, hosting the University of Ozarks Thursday, Dec. 15. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Kimbrell Arena.

NOTES: Minor's total marked his third 20-points-plus outing of the season and tied a personal season-best… Hilliard collected his second double-double of the year.
