Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

TREMENDOUS TEAM EFFORT FALLS JUST SHORT IN SEMIFINALS

BELTON, TEXAS – McMurry University head women's soccer coach Charles Nobles, in the wake of a nip-and-tuck 1-0 loss at the hands of American Southwest Conference regular season champion and United Soccer Coaches Division III No. 13-ranked Mary-Hardin-Baylor Thursday, Nov. 3, couldn't have been much prouder of his War Hawks.

"This team has gone above and beyond the call every time out this year," he reflected. "They did it again today. We had a tremendously powerful opponent in front of us on their field and had it tied at halftime, and nearly pushed it into overtime. You can't ask for much more than these women's effort."

Despite the host Cru having a 13-2 shots advantage, McMurry's trademark defense was something to behold at UMHB's Soccer Field. Junior goalkeeper Priscella Caruso (Tomball, Texas) compiled five saves while her teammates strongly marked up the potent UMHB offense at each turn. The final outcome came down to a foul call on the visitors near the War Hawks goal, leading to a score from Maria Rico in the 84th minute to break the deadlock.

Nobles' sophomore offensive duo of Emily Holland (Mansfield, Texas) and Jae Portillo (Grand Prairie, Texas) aimed at the home end net in the first 45 minutes. Both of their strikes were turned away.

McMurry concluded its season with an 8-6-4 mark.
