ALPINE, Texas – Destiny Mathews and Emily Holland combined for 32 points on Thursday in Alpine, Texas, but McMurry Women's Basketball came up short at Sul Ross State by a 74-51 final in American Southwest Conference action.
Both defenses held their opponent to under 40 percent shooting, but Sul Ross State (8-7, 4-6 ASC) took advantage of 20 second chance points on 21 offensive rebounds to pull away.
The War Hawks (0-13, 0-8 ASC) were led by Mathews with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Holland added 15 points. Senior Azallee Johnson added seven rebounds. Vania Hampton led the Lobos with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
McMurry is back in action Saturday at Howard Payne University. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. in Brownwood, Texas.
