McMurry Hall of Honor Class of 2021: Hann Ollison

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University will celebrate the induction of its latest Hall of Honor class on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. inside Radford Auditorium. The event is free of charge and open to the public. Masks are required at the event.

In the days leading up to the event, we will reveal the biographies of each inductee. This year's class includes eight individuals, two team inductions, the Grant Teaff "Beyond the Game" Award and the Bob and Clara Brown Award inductions.

On Wednesday and Thursday, we will highlight each of our eight individual inductees. Our seventh individual is six-time track & field national champion Hann Ollison '10.

A Colorado City, Texas native and Colorado High School graduate, Hann Ollison enrolled at McMurry in 2005 and had a remarkable track & field career in one of NCAA Division III's top programs - which he help elevate to national success.

Ollison lettered four seasons from 2006-2009 and became a 17-time All-American. His six NCAA Division III national championships include two win in the 4x100 relay, two wins in the indoor 400 meter dash and two wins in the outdoor 400 meter dash. Ollison was also instrumental in the program's first-ever national championship, with the team finishing first overall in 2008.

Ollison owns five school records that still stand today, including the indoor 200m (22.04), the outdoor 400m (46.40) and three different relays. In 2008 at the NCAA Indoor Qualifiers, Ollison, John Mikalik, Terry Smith and Bryce Williamson had a time of 3:14.34 to set the 4x400 record. Prior to that, he teamed up with Mikalik, Jim Bob Bizzell and Rafael Matthews to set the 4x400 outdoor record in 2006 at the NCAA Championships with a time of 3:10.54.

Currently, Ollison owns the most individual NCAA national championships ahead of both Cody Brotherton and Brad Parris with five. He also has the most All-American nominations with 17 ahead of Kevin Cunningham with 12. Regionally, Ollison was a three-time National Southeast Regional Athlete of the Year.

Adding to his impressive resume, Ollison is a four-time all-conference athlete and has won 16 conference championship events. He was the 2006 American Southwest Conference Freshman of the Year, the 2007, 2008 and 2009 ASC Most Outstanding Athlete and the 2008 Conference High Point Athlete. McMurry also won the conference all four years Ollison competed.

His abilities were not only noticed on the track, but also conference wide, as he was recognized as the American Southwest Conference Athlete of the Year among all male sports his senior season. He is one of four to accomplish this feat from the program along with Brad Parris, Cody Brotherton and Kevin Cunningham.

Inducted into the Hall of Honor and ASC Hall of Fame in 2018, the 2008 national championship team is one of the greatest ever assembled in McMurry's history. With only seven competitors, McMurry finished with 35 points to edge SUNY-Cortland by two points. Ollison had a hand in 34 of the 35 points to earn the meet's High Point Scorer award.

Ollison and company needed to finish at least fourth place in the final event – the 4x400 relay – to secure the national title. Despite having the 14th best qualifying time, McMurry finished third overall and won the title.

Among some of Ollison's career highlights, he cited his first-ever outdoor 400 meter dash championship and his performance in the long jump that landed him second place and All-American status.

Ollison recalls many people who impacted his career, including Coach Barbara Crousen who he claims kept him and the team competitive – even on bad days. He also mentioned legendary swim coach Bev Ball for always having her door open with a bowl of Red Hots on her desk. He also cited multiple teammates, including Quinesha Franklin and Irene Johnson who were the first people he met on campus. Finally, he listed the many teammates he's competed with – specifically his fellow relay runners.

While at McMurry, Ollison was a member of Phi Epsilon Kappa. He went on to graduate in December 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology.

Since graduation, Ollison has worked in elementary physical education (2010-2011) in his hometown of Colorado City and later worked as a rig operator at Basic Energy in Aspermont, Texas from 2011-2017. He currently works in Abilene, where he has been employed at Rover Petroleum since 2017.

Ollison has two daughters, Kamry (11) and Khloe (9). In his spare time, Ollison enjoys watching his daughters play sports and golfing when they aren't playing. He currently resides in Hamlin, Texas.
