DALLAS – McMurry Men's Tennis closed out the season after dropping 5-0 in a tough semifinal matchup against Hardin-Simmons in the American Southwest Conference Men's Tennis Championship Friday in Dallas.
"We can achieve anything together," said second year head coach
Chris Breaux. "I feel we did the best we could, and that is all I can ask."
The Cowboys claimed their first two points with losses by McMurry at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles.
Dylan Bryant and
Chris Causer would drop the first match by a score of 8-2.
Reid Smith and
Trey Fambrough would then fall by the same deficit to Josh Lopez and Davyn Williford.
Carlos Martinez and
Chase Daniell's win streak at No. 1 doubles finally came to an end as they would fall to HSU's Alex Pavkovich and Desmond O'Shea, 8-3. The pair had won seven straight games at No. 1 doubles – including the quarterfinal win against LETU on Thursday – before finishing the season with a 15-2 overall record.
Applying pressure on the War Hawks, the Cowboys would claim its fourth point with an 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles against Causer.
With the season on the line, McMurry would have to claim the final five matchups in order to hold off the Cowboys.
Unfortunately, the match would fall in favor of HSU as No. 3 singles would result in a loss by Smith to conclude the match. James Moore earned the Cowboy win, 6-3, 6-3.
The War Hawks finish the season 7-10 overall, 3-2 in ASC play.
