McMurry drops series finale against LeTourneau, 4-3

LONGVIEW, Texas – The McMurry University Softball team fell short in a series finale against LeTourneau, dropping the conference matchup by a score of 4-3 Saturday afternoon in Longview, Texas.

McMurry (9-5, 5-4) posted nine hits overall while LeTourneau (5-6, 4-5) recorded eight. Leading the War Hawk offense was junior Camille Scott who went 3-for-3 at the plate and senior Emily Michki who was 3-4. Both registered one RBI on the day as well.

The War Hawks were the first to strike with an early score by Angelica Abila at the top of the first inning.

McMurry quickly followed up its first inning efforts by posting another run in the second frame. A double to right field by Camille Scott would result in Mikayla Krause crossing the plate to give McMurry a 2-0 lead.

It wasn't until the fourth inning when LeTourneau would see its first run touch the plate. A double to center field by Callie Poore brought home Mickenzie Murry.

With a one-point lead in the fifth, Michki sent a shot up the middle to score Abila once more.

A fifth inning surge by the YellowJackets would plague the War Hawks' potential series sweep. LETU tallied three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to gain the lead, a lead that would stand until the final out of the game.

Despite the loss, the War Hawks have only dropped two of their last eight games and look to get back in the win column as they return home for a three-game conference brawl against East Texas Baptist University.  The series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday, March 26 followed by a single game on Saturday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Edwards Field.
