PINEVILLE, La. -- A second inning solo-homerun by junior catcher Kasey Woolard ignites the War Hawks as they power past Louisiana College to claim game three, 4-2.
Sophomore pitcher Kinleigh Stotts held her own at the mound, pitching all seven innings, allowing only two runs out of 30 batters.
Looking to own the series, McMurry would strike first with an early second inning rally.
Woolard led-off the second inning with a solo homerun to right center, giving McMurry a early lead in the battle. With two outs in the second, freshman outfielder Mercedes Camacho smashes one to right field for a triple. With the momentum in hand, catcher Kayla Otis smashes one to left-center to score Camacho to give the War Hawks a 2-0 lead.
Otis went on to register a double to left center at the top of the fifth and would later score on a fielding error by the Wildcats shortstop, Samantha Cetta.
With a 3-0 lead in the fifth, freshman Angelica Abila would sneak in for the score on an infield throwing error, pushing the War Hawks to a 4-0 lead heading into the sixth.
Louisiana remained scoreless until the bottom of the seventh, as a late rally by the Wildcats would put pressure on the War Hawk defense.
LC's Alyssa Lynch entered the game to pinch hit for Breanna Corkern to lead-off the seventh. A rip back to the pitcher would put Lynch on base with no outs. To follow up Lynch, Shaye Tredinich would send a shot to left field to keep the rally going. With a groundout by Briley Johnston, the Wildcats would score their first run. A sac fly by Olivia Coaker would then bring in Newman with two outs.
In a last effort to keep the inning going, Desiree Squires would connect on a hard liner to right field but would be caught by sophomore Brianna Martinez to end the game.
McMurry (2-1, 2-1) will open play at Edwards Field next Friday, hosting Belhaven University for a three game American Southwest Conference series March 5-6.
