McMurry Alumnus Karl Scott hired by Minnesota Vikings

EAGAN, Minn. –  Former McMurry Football standout Karl Scott '07 landed his first job in the National Football League on Thursday, as the Minnesota Vikings named him their new defensive backs coach.

Scott spent the past three seasons at the University of Alabama working for Coach Nick Saban, helping the Crimson Tide achieve a 13-0 record and win the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship.

Additionally, Scott has helped develop players such as projected first-round draft pick Patrick Surtain II and 2020 second-rounder Trevon Diggs, among others.

Since graduating from McMurry in 2007, Scott has risen up the coaching ranks with stops at Delta State, Tusculum, Southeastern Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Texas Tech and Alabama.

As a player, Scott lettered four seasons at McM from 2003-06 and co-holds the program's single game record for interceptions. As a freshman in 2003, the Houston native had three picks against Sul Ross State.

Scott graduated from McMurry with a degree in exercise and sports studies.
