ABILENE, Texas – McMurry Men's Basketball looked strong early against nationally-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday, but were unable to give the Cru their first loss in an 86-67 loss inside Kimbrell Arena.
Entering the national Top 10 just this week, the No. 9 Cru improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the American Southwest Conference.
The first half saw four lead changes in a back-and-forth affair, but UMHB proved their rank and controlled the second half. McMurry (3-6, 1-3 ASC) continued to battle nonetheless, shooting 28-64 from the floor for 43.8 percent and outscoring UMHB in the paint, 40-38.
Despite the loss, McMurry had four players with double-digit scoring totals. Michael Imariagbe led the group with 17 points, followed by TJ Hilliard with 14, Remy Minor with 12 and Rob Charles with 10. Hilliard led the way in rebounding with eight.
Reigning ASC West Player of the Year and All-American Josiah Johnson paced UMHB's offense at his usual rate, scoring 31 points.
The War Hawks continue their homestand on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Concordia Texas. Any fan that brings an unwrapped toy to the gate for "Toys For Tots" will receive free admission to Saturday's game.
