Box Score IRVING, Texas – McMurry University Women's Soccer led the majority of the way at The University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon, but would ultimately settle for a 1-1 draw in Irving, Texas.
McMurry remains undefeated on the season with the tie, moving to a 3-0-3 record. The Crusaders progress to 1-2-1.
The War Hawks held the advantage for nearly 60 minutes following a goal from sophomore Krista Thrasher in the 24th minute. The goal was Thrasher's first of the season, as she ended with four shots and three shots on goal.
Down 1-0 toward the end of regulatiom, the Crusaders scored the equalizer with just over six minutes remaining to force overtime.
Each team saw opportunities in the first overtime period, with junior Sky Reynolds having a shot blocked. Dallas posted a pair of shots, one of which was saved by freshman goalkeeper Taytum McDonald to preserve the tie.
McMurry freshman Alyssa Daily fired away three shots in the final 10:00 in an attempt to win it for her team. Following a saved shot early and a blocked shot midway into the second overtime frame, Daily hit the crossbar within the final two minutes to narrowly miss the golden goal.
In an attack-heavy contest, the War Hawks outshot Dallas, 20-16, with a 7-5 shot on goal advantage. Daily and Thrasher combined for half the shots with Daily having six and Thrasher four.
Three keepers saw time in the goal mouth, led by McDonald with two saves in 51:27 minutes of action. Juniors Ashley Ray and Cindy Villasana each recorded a save with 26 and 32 minutes in net, respectively.
The team returns home on Thursday, Sept. 19 to take on Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Kickoff from Wilford Moore Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
